We are proud to present the inaugural Legacy Awards Gala of the Queens Foundation for Architecture, held in collaboration with the Queens Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This gathering celebrates not only the power of design, but the vision, leadership, and collaboration that have shaped our borough and inspired the next generation of creators and community builders.
Founded in 2017 by leaders of AIA Queens, the Queens Foundation for Architecture has served as a catalyst for civic pride, creativity, and connection. In the nation’s most culturally diverse county, our mission has remained clear: to elevate architectural awareness, nurture design thinking, expand opportunities for students, and strengthen the relationship between people and the places they call home.
Over the past eight years, this mission has come alive through design workshops, CAD competitions, mentoring, film festivals, and scholarships that have empowered young people and communities across Queens. Even during challenging moments, such as the pandemic programs like the “Dream Space” competition offered a vital platform for creativity, resilience, and hope.
Collaboration makes all of this possible. Our partnerships—with ORLI Plus, Project Pedals, Kispire, NYCOBA NOMA, the Queens Museum, the Latimer House Museum, and Flushing Town Hall—have expanded our reach and deepened our impact. Together, we’ve brought architecture into classrooms, neighborhoods, and cultural spaces, showing that design is not only about buildings, but about the people and communities who shape them.
As the AIA Queens Chapter celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2025, we honor the visionaries whose leadership built the foundation we stand on today. The Legacy Awards Gala recognizes their contributions and reaffirms our shared belief that architecture, guided by generosity and collaboration, can transform both our built environment and the fabric of our communities.
